The Scribbles staff and administration are so proud of all we have been able to achieve in just three years! First and foremost, we offer top quality care for children between the ages of 6 weeks and 12 years in a clean, safe, nurturing environment. While this is our number one priority, we are always looking for ways to go above and beyond and provide our families with services and programs that exceed their expectations!
NAEYC Accreditation: The National Association for the Education of Young Children is the quality mark in childcare. Centers wishing to achieve accreditation must go through an extensive application process after which skilled and reliable NAEYC assesors visit the program to determine that it is meeting NAEYC standards in the areas of relationships, curriculum, teaching approaches, assessments, nutrition and health, staff qualifications, family involvement, community resources, environment, and program management. Scribbles is proud to be a NAEYC accredited childcare center!
QRS: The Illinois Quality Counts-Quality Rating System assists childcare programs in providing high-quality care for their children and families. Like NAEYC, assessors from the QRS organization spend time in the classrooms and evaluate the teachers and programming and award the center a Star Level Rating. Scribbles is proud to have achieved a Star Level 3 Rating!
NGSC Certification: The National Green School Coalition is a national, independent, third-party green school certification and audit program governed by a group of environmental professionals and implemented through trained, knowledgeable, consultants who are passionate about conserving our most precious resource – our children. We have worked closely with the NGSC and environmental consulting group, Little Miss Save the Earth, to become the first childcare center in the area to be certified by the NGSC! The certification process led to much awareness on the behalf of our administrators, staff, and families and has prompted us to implement many changes in our program that will ultimately lead to a healthier, safer, sustainable environment for our children. Some of these changes include increased classroom and center-wide recycling efforts, introduction of green/eco friendly cleaning products, and reduced paper usage. We are also in the process of purchasing and installing a composting bin for food waste!
Nutrition: As part of our efforts to become certified by the NGSC, we have worked with a Dr. Sear’s certified L.E.A.N coach to make our already well-rounded lunch menu even more nutritional and appropriately balanced for healthy, growing children. Our caterers provide as many fresh options as possible and limit the amount of additives and preservatives. We have also used this as a learning opportunity in the classrooms, teaching children about healthy food choices and the benefits of a helathy, balanced diet.
Kilgus Farmstead: In keeping with our efforts to be “green” and healthy, Scribbles receives a weekly milk shipment from Kilgus Farmstead in Fairbury, IL! The milk is pasteurized but non homogenized which allows children the advantage of receiving more of the milk’s vitamins, protein, and calcium without absorbing all the fat. Kilgus Farmstead cows receive no growth hormones and are in pasture April through November.
Center Events: Several times each year Scribbles offers opportunities for our families to come together. In fact, we will find any excuse to throw a party!
Charity Events: Scribbles loves to give back to the community! We have walked for Spina Bifida, cycled for St. Jude’s, donated books for underprivileged children, stocked the local food pantry, and supplied many toys for tots!
Special Programming: Some of our past and present special progamming have included preschool Spanish classes, Parents’ Night Out, six-week theater sessions culminating in a final group performance, Fit Kids fitness program, and free parenting workshops and seminars. We are always looking for new special programming opportunites to offer our children and families!
